An ideal condition for any region would be to have a green cover of 33%. Unfortunately, the green cover of the Coimbatore region is less than 10% and is fast moving towards a precariously dangerous situation.

With 2011 being declared by the United Nations as the International year of Forests and 2011 also being Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s 80th birthday, the Pasumpularai afforestation drive was launched to commemorate both events.

Through the guidance of Mrs Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee, 100 bamboo saplings were planted along the bund edges of the Nandangarai check dam. The planted saplings were then fenced to protect them from grazing animals.
