Hope Vanam
Project Details
Siruthuli transformed a 10.75-acre patch of land near the Ondipudur flyover, previously overrun with thorny bushes and invasive Seemai Karuvelam (Prosopis Juliflora), into a thriving green sanctuary. The project was made possible through the support of Home of Hope, Spark Round Table 323, and Rotary Club of Coimbatore Smart City, with approval from Southern Railways facilitated by Shri U. Subba Rao, IRSME(Indian Railways Service of Mechanical Engineers). The project’s foundation stone was laid on June 25th, 2020, and the first phase of the plantation was inaugurated on October 3rd, 2020. The transformation was challenging, as six feet of building debris and garbage had to be repurposed into bunds on the Northern and Southern boundaries. A low-cost filtration system and sedimentation tank were installed to treat sewage water, which is now used to irrigate the plantation. A total of 30,786 saplings comprising 25 native species were planted over three phases, converting the barren land into a vibrant green space. Hope Vanam is a testament to Siruthuli’s vision of transforming adversity into sustainability, offering a breath of fresh air to the surrounding urban landscape.
