Narasipuram Village, Perur Taluk

Restoration of a village check dam through desilting, Bund strengthening, Vegetation clearance and Creation of biodiversity islands to improve water retention and groundwater recharge.

Project Details

Pachaanvayal Pathi Check Dam in Narasipuram had long been overwhelmed by thick vegetation and silt, allowing precious rainwater to rush past without nourishing the land. With the water body unable to hold or slow flowing water, groundwater levels and farm productivity continued to decline. Between 2021 and 2023, Siruthuli undertook the careful rejuvenation of this check dam. Overgrown shrubs were cleared, the structure was desilted, and the excavated earth was used to strengthen bunds and create small islands within the water spread area designed to welcome birds and revive biodiversity. Today, the check dam holds over 110 million litres of water, slowing erosion, recharging groundwater, and restoring confidence among farmers who depend on every drop. Handed back to the community, Pachaanvayal Pathi now stands renewed, quietly storing rain, nurturing fields, and sustaining livelihoods.
