2022-2023

Panagudi Village, Thirumayam Taluk, Pudukkottai District

Large-scale lake rejuvenation through complete desilting, Bund strengthening, and Creation of biodiversity islands to enhance water retention and ecological health.

Project Details

Kaana Kanmai is a vast and vital lake that anchors water security for Panagudi village and its surrounding farmlands. Over time, siltation and unchecked runoff had reduced its ability to hold water, allowing precious rain to escape into nearby streams. With the support of the AMM Foundation, Siruthuli undertook the rejuvenation of this historic water body between 2022 and 2023. The lake was fully desilted, invasive growth cleared, and the excavated earth reused to strengthen bunds and create five islands within the water spread. These islands are designed as future nesting and habitat spaces for migratory birds, weaving biodiversity into the heart of the restoration. Today, Kaana Kanmai holds water longer, recharges groundwater more effectively, and stands renewed as a lifeline for agriculture, ecology, and the community it serves.
