Malumachampatti
Project Details
Malumachampatti had long struggled with falling groundwater levels as rapid urbanisation silenced its once-active water bodies. Debris, poor water flow and overuse had left the community facing daily challenges for drinking and irrigation water. Answering the farmers’ plea, Siruthuli, supported by Personiv, an eClerx Company, restored the first check dam in the catchment.
The desilting was completed with care, and a new percolation shaft was introduced to ensure deeper and faster groundwater recharge. When the restored structure was inaugurated in May in the presence of eClerx leaders, the first rains soon followed and the land responded. Wells began to replenish, and farmers regained confidence in their fields.
A once-parched region is now showing signs of renewal, marking the beginning of a larger effort to revive every structure along this vital stream.
What are the Benefits?
- Significant increase in groundwater recharge after desilting
- Improved water availability for farmers and households
- Revival of the first check dam in the catchment
- Enhanced resilience against water scarcity in a rapidly urbanising region
- Foundation laid for rejuvenating other structures along the stream
