Pallathur Sivan Kovil Pond
Project Details
The Sivan Temple Pond, established over a century ago, has been a sacred and vital water source for the temple’s spiritual rituals and the daily lives of the surrounding community. Located south of the temple and nestled in a 350-acre forested region, the pond was once fed by a gravity-based system through a feeder pond equipped with a sluice and pipe system.
Over the last two decades, neglect led to the pond’s decline. Silt accumulation, invasive vegetation, and damage to the compound wall severely reduced its water holding capacity and disrupted the water supply. Recognising the urgency, the temple trust partnered with the AMM Foundation, which entrusted Siruthuli with the restoration effort.
Siruthuli desilted the pond, removing accumulated debris and clearing invasive growth, which restored the pond’s original depth and increased its capacity by 6,000 cubic metres. The compound walls and steps were repaired, reinforcing the pond’s structure. Blockages in the pipeline system were identified and was repaired to ensure smooth and uninterrupted water flow.
The rejuvenation of the Sivan Temple Pond has revived its spiritual and functional role in the community, ensuring that water once again flows steadily into this sacred reservoir.
