Oothupallam

The Oothupallam rejuvenation project aimed to restore one of the key check dams in the Noyyal River basin, spanning 2 acres. Siruthuli, in collaboration with local communities, government agencies, and corporate partners, undertook desilting, clearing supply channels, reconstructing the dam, and strengthening the bunds using excavated silt. Gabion structures were introduced to prevent erosion and maintain water flow. The project increased the water holding capacity to 15,000 cu.m., benefiting over 100 households by improving irrigation and groundwater recharge. More than 5,000 loads of fertile silt were distributed to farmers, enhancing crop yield. The project also reduced man-animal conflict by providing a stable water source for wildlife, including elephants, thereby enriching biodiversity and ensuring a sustainable ecosystem
