Nandangarai
Project Details
The Nandangarai stream, a key tributary of the River Noyyal, was once dry and invisible. In 2008, guided by the wisdom of Dr. Rajendra Singh, Siruthuli built a check dam with the support of the District Collector and DRDA under the Self-Sufficiency Scheme (SSS). The project transformed the landscape, recharging over 650 hectares of farmland and reviving local borewells and open wells.
In 2021, reduced storage due to silt buildup prompted a major desilting effort supported by HDB Financial Services and Lucid Imaging. Capacity increased from 4,906 cu.m to 7,342 cu.m, with gabion structures and a stone check dam (Kallanai) added to trap silt and maintain water flow. The project stands as a testament to the power of collective effort and local wisdom.
