Panangudi Kanmai
Project Details
Panangudi Kanmai, a vital lake in Pudukkottai district, had slowly lost its depth and ability to support the farming communities around it. With the support of the AMM Foundation, Siruthuli undertook a careful, two-year restoration to bring the lake back to life.
The waterbody was fully desilted, overgrown vegetation cleared, and the excavated earth was thoughtfully reused to strengthen bunds and create two islands within the lake that will soon host trees and birdlife. New culverts and sluices were constructed to regulate water flow and protect the lake during monsoons. By April 2024, Panangudi Kanmai had exceeded its restoration targets, restoring both water security and ecological balance.
Today, the lake stands renewed, holding rain, nurturing biodiversity, and once again sustaining the people and lands that depend on it.
