Project Details

For over fifty years, Sholinganallur Lake lay forgotten, filled with wastewater, choked with sludge, and unable to serve the communities that depended on it. In 2024, with the generous support of Infosys, the lake began its journey back to life. Nearly 3 metres of sludge were gently removed, floating vetiver islands were installed to naturally purify incoming water, and the lake slowly began to breathe again. By year-end, strengthened bunds, clear pathways, safe play areas, and restored inlets had transformed the lake into a vibrant urban oasis. More than 1,500 native saplings planted by Infosys volunteers now form a protective green embrace around the water, welcoming birds, butterflies and people alike. From a polluted basin to a thriving ecosystem, Sholinganallur Lake stands today as a symbol of what collective care and thoughtful restoration can achieve.
