Masaorambhu Stream
Project Details
The Masaorambu stream, originating from the foothills of the Western Ghats, is a vital tributary feeding the River Noyyal. Years of neglect, rampant siltation, and invasive plant growth had choked the stream, disrupting its natural flow. Recognising its strategic importance, Siruthuli undertook the rejuvenation of a critical 5.7 km stretch as part of its vision to revive all 34 streams that nourish the Noyyal.
With support from Titan Company Ltd., the Water Resources Department, local community members, and impact assessment partner RightDots, the project involved extensive desilting, removal of invasive vegetation, and widening of the stream path. Seven existing check dams were refurbished to enhance water retention and flow regulation.
Over one lakh cubic metres of water storage capacity was restored, enabling seasonal recharge of adjacent wells and tanks. Within just one season, tangible improvements were seen in local water levels, benefitting farmers and supporting biodiversity.
Masaorambu’s revival stands as a model for public-private-community collaboration in stream restoration and marks a significant step in the ongoing mission to rejuvenate the Noyyal River, one stream at a time.
