Ayyan Kuttai
Project Details
Located in the heart of Sundakkamuthur Village, adjacent to the Village Administrative Office, Ayyan Kuttai had long suffered from neglect, siltation, and solid waste dumping. Around 25% of the pond area was covered with thorny bushes and debris, with almost a meter of silt accumulation that had severely reduced its storage and recharge capacity. The absence of proper bunds on the western and southern sides had further compromised its utility. In 2019, Siruthuli, with the CSR support of Baker Hughes (GE – Oil and Gas India Pvt. Ltd.) and Coimbatore Corporation, undertook a full-scale rejuvenation of the tank. The tank bed was desilted, leveled, including removal of hard rock strata and the excavated earth was used to standardize bunds and create a central island to enhance water retention. The 2 km inlet channel was cleaned, and the surplus weir was rebuilt to its original level.
What are the Benefits?
